Monday 21st Sep

FOR TUESDAY'S LESSON: Go back through your ‘Downton’ Trailer notes/responses and ensure you have at least 3 detailed and specific paragraphs which analyse how the use of Camera work, Sound and Mise en scene contribute to the representation of class and status. Please hand in a paper version of this work as well as embedding it in your blog

Saturday 12 September 2015

For 21st Sep

1) Embed the OCR guides into your own blog
2) Using the guides and the 'useful glossary' to help you, find your own example for each camera shot, angle and movement and explain the probable effect/s on the viewer. (It would be preferable to use examples from TV Drama - http://www.tubechop.com/ may be useful to you)

12W Tuesday 15th Sep

Identify and analyse the areas of representation in the clip from 'Waterloo Road'

Ensure that you refer to specific camera shots, angles and movements to support your comments.

My 5x5

5 TV Dramas

Bates Motel - weird characters but compelling viewing
Gotham - an interesting back story to Batman. Each episode never seems long enough though!
Hannibal - loved the first two series but finding the third less enthralling
Ordinary Lies - was surprised to see that Jason Manford could act!
Casualty - a very guilty pleasure! I watched it when it first started, then had a 15 year break and nothing's changed much!

5 TV Presenters

Claudia Winkelman - wish I had her energy
Keith Lemmon - used to hate him but love him on 'Celebrity Juice'
Philip Schofield - grew up with him presenting children's TV and he's still going strong!
Sue Barker - fab handling of the boys on 'A Question of Sport'
Jeremy Paxman - rude, arrogant and pushy, but gets answers

Films I supposedly saw at the cinema (I fell asleep)

Casino - my first nap time
Matrix Reloaded - complete waste of an evening if I hadn't have caught up some sleep
Gangs of New York - slept most of this so nothing to report
The Dark Knight - can't really justify this one!
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire - have actually fallen asleep at the same part each time I watched this!

Music memories

The Zutons' 'Valerie' - at a gig before Winehouse nicked it!
Guillemots - amazing gig, love their 'Red' album
Maximo Park
Duffy - love her voice
Counting Crows - 'August & Everything After' is my most-played album

Who are you?

Use http://www.uktribes.com/ to find the group or groups (there can be crossover) that you think you belong to. Why do you belong to this group(s)?

What media figures (actors, musicians, sportspeople, celebrities) do you consider similar to you? In what way are they similar to you/ are you similar to them?

Do you consciously 'model' (copy modes of dress, style yourself, act like) yourself on any of these media figures? Why is that?

Construct a representation of yourself using the above information. Add images of the type of clothes, accessories and gadgets you prefer. Add images and descriptions from UK Tribes to further illustrate your self representation.

Create this in Word for now and embed in your blog at a later date

Lesson 2 Exploring representations

A) Select 3 of the still shots from yesterday's lesson
- consider the possible readings
B) Find your own still shot from a  TV drama
- identify the areas of representation
- consider how the meaning has been created (the producers' choices)
- deconstruct, identifying possible readings

Create in Word or Ppt so that your work can be uploaded to your blog at a later date.
Ensure you also have definitions for today's key terms.
